Why do I as a parent need to purchase the kit if I arranged a mohel (ritual circumciser)?

The inter-office committee of the Ministry of Health and the Committee for the Supervision of Mohels obligate each mohel to arrive with a set of utensils that has been sterilized in a special machine. Due to its high cost, this machine is not always available to the mohel. In addition, because the mohels/physicians usually perform a number of brits per day, they are not always able to sterilize for technical reasons.

Traditionally, a topical sterilization of the utensils before the brit is carried out with alcohol. Such sterilization is unsatisfactory hygienically, and is also unacceptable to the Ministry of Health. Therefore, our obligation as parents is to ensure that the mohel uses a kit of sterile utensils for single use. This is our paramount interest as parents responsible for the health of the baby.

By purchasing the brit mila kit, both the mohel and the parents can rest assured that the brit utensils have undergone sterilization, are clean and sealed in sterile packaging. They can enjoy the fact that these disposable utensils are intended for their baby alone.
